GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET
GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET
Getting out of a speeding ticket is one of those things all suburban kids need to learn how to do at an early age, lest they be saddled down with expensive and burdensome violations for such minor things as blowing thorough a speed trap, going a few miles an hour over the “posted speed limit.” Though there are numerous ways to get out of a speeding ticket; listed below are a few.GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET -Talk your way out of it: Police officers are human beings. They’re not without fault; they sometimes miss things; they may be prone to mistakes. Though, if you were in fact going 80 in a 30, with the advances in technology and the image capturing techniques, it is sometimes difficult to dispel the plain facts. GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET Though, a persuasive story sometimes trumps all too. If you’re qualified enough to do so, you can always talk your way out of speeding tickets. Good starts are, “But officer didn’t you see that OTHER car?” or “Well I can understand how you missed them; there are so many people zipping all over this road.” By sympathizing with his plight as a cop with a quota, you’re subtly telling him he’s wrong without being accusatory.GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET -The Legal Way: Speeding tickets work the same way as the legal system: Innocent until proven guilty. If you declare innocence to the officer and he still issues that ticket, then you’re left with only a couple of options. One is to pay it and admit guilt. But that’s not very pleasant. Your other option for disputing the claim on the ticket is to claim your innocence and mail it in that way. You’ll be scheduled a court date where you’ll have to go in and sit around all day with the intent of going before a judge and pleading your case. GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET This method can sometimes work as police officers are government employees and they usually don’t show up to argue a speeding ticket they issued weeks ago. So the judge will usually dismiss the ticket and you’ll be off the hook. However, this method can sometimes backfire if the officer shows up with evidence (!) of your guilt. Then not only did you spend the whole day in vain, but you have to pay the speeding ticket and sometimes court costs.GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET There is another way to get out of a speeding ticket for the linguistically gifted. If you feel you didn’t get an impartial hearing from the officer on the spot, or if you really were not the guilty party, you can avoid the whole court fiasco by. . . GETTING OUT OF A SPEEDING TICKET -Writing a letter: Ah! The age old art of letter writing, all but lost in this digital age of email and cellular communications. But sometimes good old fashioned pen to paper with your pithy case can tug at heartstrings and engage the reader enough to let you walk free. Speeding tickets are a sad fact of driving. The easiest way to get out of a speeding ticket is not to get into one in the first place. The few seconds of time you save going a few miles an hour quicker is negligible anyway.
